Describe your responsibilities as Operations Director
My main responsibilities are looking after our SQL databases and code for our internal reporting systems and content management systems. Making sure all our systems are well-optimised and bug-free. I really enjoy looking at data to help the teams make better decisions, whether that's what types of deals do best right through to providing reports to help the business plan what we're working on next. I also keep a close eye on our website's speed and user experience to make sure our users are getting the best experience possible when they visit our website.
What career path did you take to get to where you are today?
I actually started out my career as a professional footballer having played for Fleetwood, Kendal, and Lancaster before ending up playing for Blackpool. I retired from football and worked in the civil service in the NHS & War Pensions department before joining up with the family business in 2006.
What’s the best saving you have ever made?
I never buy a pizza without using a discount code and love it when there's 50% off at Domino Pizza. I also recently made a great saving on a new boiler from BOXT. As well as saving on installation, I've been able to save over £500 this year alone by monitoring my thermostat with the HIVE app. I’ve managed to create a heating schedule that saves money and having a more energy-efficient boiler means I pay less. This was well worth the initial investment with how energy bills have risen this year.
